Relater/Commander Overview

Relater/Commanders (R/C) are Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling types. Introverted intuition in the dominant position is seen only in opposing combinations. This creates a pulling and tugging of needs. Introverts tend to be conservative, to withdraw and focus their energy and attention on their inner world, while intuitives tend to be expansive, trust their hunches, and value new ideas, concepts, speculation and innovation. In the dominant position, introverted intuitives can spend a great deal of time pondering the likely outcome of things. They feel bound to incorporate their visions into their lives, but often feel helpless to do so. With this opposition, conflicts may arise when R/Cs are paradoxically laid-back then driven, decisive then indecisive, or concerned then distant. Relaters are reserved and cautious, while Commanders are action oriented risk-takers. As a result, R/Cs tend to be daredevils in some areas, and overly cautious in others. They usually function best in environments that are structured, but flexible.

  • May lose interest at the point of actually doing
  • Conversations involve reflecting, expanding, clarifying, arguing and rethinking, rather than simple exchanges
  • Enjoys problem-solving and approaches all of life that way
  • Relationships are seen as on-going experiments
  • Prefers work that requires intellectual mastery
